Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s 2026 masterpiece Digger is an absolute triumph, serving up a razor-sharp satirical black comedy that grips you from its very first frame! Explosively entertaining and gloriously unhinged, this audacious cinematic ride delivers an unforgettable big-screen spectacle. It is shaping up to be one of those “must see” films that pop up every now and again!
The plot revolves around Digger Rockwell, a ruthless, ego-driven oil tycoon whose aggressive drilling operations trigger a catastrophic environmental disaster in Greenland. Striking a brilliant balance between biting absurdism and dystopian drama, the film boasts a surreal, meta-theatrical visual style with extravagant set pieces. Rich in themes of corporate greed, human hubris, and impending climate fallout, it offers a fierce critique of modern excess.
The cast are excellent. Tom Cruise (Top Gun: Maverick) delivers a career-defining, wildly eccentric lead performance, expertly supported by Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) as his conscientious safety advisor and Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall) as his sharp business partner. Garnering immense popular acclaim from both critics and audiences for its fearless direction, brilliant biting humor, and stellar ensemble performances, Digger is a breathtaking cinematic achievement that demands to be experienced. It has been a little marmite with audiences either really not enjoying or really, really loving but here is the chance to make up your own mind!
If you enjoyed Don't Look Up (2021) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), you are likely to enjoy this film!
