& Sons is an intensely moving, witty and masterfully crafted family drama that will hold you spellbound from its very first frame! Adapted from David Gilbert?s acclaimed novel by director Pablo Trapero and Oscar-winner Sarah Polley, it is an absolute triumph of emotional depth and dramatic storytelling.
The story centres on A.N. Dyer, a world-renowned but reclusive author who, believing his death is near, summons his estranged adult sons to his estate. His unexpected reunion triggers a shocking revelation that completely upends the family?s history. Stylistically, the film blends luminous cinematography with a quietly tense atmosphere, masterfully unspooling a narrative that navigates the heavy burden of legacy, identity, and the painful search for forgiveness.
The exceptional ensemble cast delivers unforgettable performances with national treasure Bill Nighy (Living) astonishingly vulnerable as the flawed patriarch, Dyer. He is strongly backed up by George MacKay (1917) bringing intense, raw vulnerability as his son Jamie, and Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) who brings incredible warmth and gravitas as the matriarch, Isabel. It also features excellent turns from Dominic West and Noah June too. It premiered to glowing critical acclaim on the festival circuit, & Sons has been widely hailed as a hauntingly powerful masterpiece, with a great cast and exceptional performances.
