Director Jonathan Demme’s claustrophobic camerawork, eerie silence and intense close-up shots create a uniquely unsettling style that keeps audiences captivated throughout. Jodie Foster delivers an Oscar-winning performance following The Accused, while Anthony Hopkins became legendary as Hannibal Lecter after earlier acclaim in The Elephant Man. Ted Levine is also unforgettable as Buffalo Bill. The film achieved enormous audience and critical acclaim, winning the “Big Five” Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, a rare achievement in cinema history.
