Blending family adventure, cosy murder mystery and talking-animal comedy, the film follows a flock of unusually intelligent sheep who attempt to solve the murder of their beloved shepherd, George Hardy, after years spent secretly listening to the detective novels he reads aloud each evening. As clues unfold across a picturesque English village, the sheep uncover hidden secrets, suspicious locals and emotional truths about grief, loyalty and friendship. Director Kyle Balda balances whimsical humour with suspense beautifully, using expressive CGI animation, warm cinematography and sharp dialogue to create a wonderfully British atmosphere reminiscent of classic Agatha Christie mysteries.
The excellent cast (both on-screen and voice) are all fantastic and Hugh Jackman (The Greatest Showman) shines as George. The all star voice cast are equally wonderful with Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Patrick Stewart (Star Trek), Regina Hall (One Battle After Another), Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd) and Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) all delivering brilliant vocal humour. Critics have praised the film’s emotional intelligence, clever writing and charming performances, with strong reviews and enthusiastic audience reactions.
